The PENTAX PF-65ED and PF-65EDA both incorporate time-proven porro-prism
optics and a 65mm objective lens with PENTAX-exclusive ED (Extra-low
Dispersion) optical elements to deliver a sharp, high-contrast image with
minimal chromatic aberration. The PF-65ED features a straight-line lens
barrel for quick, effortless subject spotting, even when the observer is
on the move. The PF-65EDA offers comfortable, fatigue-free viewing over
many hours with its 45-degree slanted lens barrel.
These spotting scopes feature a compact,
lightweight body with nitrogen-filled waterproof construction (JIS class
6), a collet-type eyepiece receptacle for an American-standard 31.7mm
(1.25 inch) sleeve, a protective rubber housing, and an accessible reach
by either hand. When mounted on a tripod, their lens barrel can be twisted
90 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise from the default position at top
– or 180 degrees from side to side – along with easy-to-locate pointers at
top and 45-degree angles, to assure the best viewing position. Their
extendible rubber lens hood comes with a sight line to facilitate
target-line adjustment.
To optimize the performance of these
spotting scopes, PENTAX has developed three compact,?high-performance XF-series
eyepieces, all featuring a bright, high-contrast image, an
American-standard 31.7mm sleeve and focal lengths ideal for outdoor
viewing and bird watching.
The smc PENTAX XF8.5 and XF12 are standard
unifocal eyepieces, offering a focal length of 8.5mm and 12mm and a
magnification of 46 and 32.5 times, respectively, with a 60 degree
apparent field of view and a long 18mm eye relief. They also feature an
extendible eyepiece ring with four click-stop positions. The smc PENTAX XF
Zoom Eyepiece 6.5mm-19.5mm features a focal-length range of 6.5mm to
19.5mm for a magnification of 20 to 60 times, with an apparent field of
view of 42 to 60 degrees and an eye relief of 11mm to 15mm. It also offers
a user-friendly rubber eyepiece ring that never becomes too cold to touch
while minimizing the risk of scratching the observer’s eyeglasses. In
addition, four smc PENTAX XW-series telescope eyepieces (XW7, XW10, XW14
and XW20) can also be used on these spotting scopes.
These spotting scopes are also
compatible with the optional PF-CA35 camera adapter, for conversion into
high-quality super-telephoto lenses with a focal length of 780mm and a
fixed aperture of F12 in combination with a PENTAX 35mm-format SLR camera.

Housed in a lightweight magnesium-alloy body, the PF80-EDA spotting scope
has a unique design with the eyepiece section slanted 45 degrees upwards
to assure maximum viewing comfort for the viewer even during many hours of
observation in the field. It also features the time-proven porro-prism
optics and a large 80mm objective lens incorporating ED (Extra-low
Dispersion) glass elements to produce a sharp, clear image with minimal
chromatic aberration. Its American-standard eyepiece receptacle, 31.7
millimeters (1.25 inch) in diameter, accepts one of six optional eyepieces
of varying magnification to satisfy many different viewing requirements.
This receptacle also has a dust-shielding glass to make the scope barrel
airtight and waterproof (rated JIS Class 6).* Coupled with a
nitrogen-injected barrel, this special mechanism prevents the internal
fogging caused by sudden temperature changes.
Because of its superb image quality,
interchangeable eyepieces and viewer-friendly angled eyepiece design, the
Pentax PF-80EDA Spotting Scope can be used for a wide range of subjects
and performs flawlessly even under highly demanding conditions in the
field.
The PF-80EDA offers a host of other
outstanding features, including: a built-in lens hood to cut excessive
light and keep the objective lens free of dust and rain, effortless
focusing via an accessible focusing knob, a built-in tripod socket with
click-stop rotation mechanism, a long 20mm eye relief for easy viewing,
and a rubber housing to protect the internal components and mechanisms
from shock and damage.
For the PF-80EDA Spotting Scope, Pentax
offers six optional interchangeable eyepieces to meet individual
requirements: five fixed-focus XL-type models with magnifications of 18.5,
25, 37, 50 and 74 times, and one zoom model offering a magnification range
of 21 to 63 times. All these eyepieces are commonly used for astronomical
telescopes and are renowned for their outstanding image reproduction.
Pentax also offers the PF-CA35 Camera
Adapter, which converts the PF-80EDA into a 1000mm F12.5 super-telephoto
lens for use with Pentax K-mount 35mm SLR cameras.
* The Pentax PF-80EDA is not designed
for underwater use and should not be submerged in water.
