Forte Paper Products

The Hungarian manufacturer Forte is one of the last manufacturers to maintain a full range of traditionally formulated fiber base papers. They also actively research and develop new products. One of their recent successes is the warm tone VC fiber paper 'Polywarmtone'. We import and distribute these papers ourselves.

FORTE POLYGRADE-V.FB
A fiber-based variable contrast paper capable of producing neutral to cool tones depending on choice of developer. It tones quite nicely and is available in both glossy and semi-matt surface (click for more information).

FORTE POLYWARMTONE PLUS FB
A variable contrast paper with a rich warm tone and an off-white base. The range of grades possible with this paper extends from about G1 to G4. The base employed has been recently upgraded to the 300g 'museum weight - most papers use 240g 'double weight'. This results in a robust print with a quality feel. Polywarmtone is an exceptionally malleable material with all the qualities of traditional chloroformed papers and can be developed to give a very warm color using appropriate warm tone developers such as Agfa Neutol WA,. As might be expected, this paper tones extremely well and quickly and gives a very good split tone in selenium. It is available in semi-matt and glossy surfaces (click here for more information).

Above times are starting points to produce normal contrast negative printed with a condenser type enlarger. All development times require continuous agitation for the first minute of development. Provide agitation of 5 to 7 inversion cycles for a 5 second span every 30 seconds for the remainder of the development time.

SHEET FILM
The above times are based on continuous agitation for sheet films throughout the entire processing time.
Agitation required is 25 cycles per minute with tray processing.

* Will not produce optimum resolution, due to developer's characteristics. Fortepan will reach optimal print quality when ISO and development times are adjusted.

** Will produce optimum resolution for Fortepan, note that film speed is one stop slower than normally rated and processing times are adjusted.

oxidation completely but
we are still working on it. Luckily we were able to
prolong its working
durability! The working
solution is freshly prepared before use and (more than
20 Prints, 24x30cm) stays
good at least a printing
session, at high usage in the open tray.
The solution, by less usage and standing time, can be kept some days in a highly filled bottle. The picture tone, adjusted warmly by us can by means of the enclosed additive and depending on the used paper, vary up to blue-black nuances. Available as: 5 x Amidol/Hydrochinon for respectively 600-1000 ml of working solution+additive for colder picture tones.           $75.00

TECHNICAL INFO
CONTRAST
Using Ilford's Multigrade 2 filter set, 12 contrast grades are possible from this paper. With Kodak's Polycontrast 2 which are recommended, 11 contrast grades are available.

HANDLING
Kodak OC or equivalent safelight is recommended. It is a good idea to test for safelight fog from time-to-time.

EXPOSURE
Double weight glossy PRESTIGE paper can be exposed with all enlarger and printer light source. Be aware that some older types of cold light tubes may normally require more yellow filtration.

DEVELOPMENT
Process in any good quality paper developer at 20°C (68°F) for 1½ to 2 min. with continuous agitation. BERGGER 'ecco' developers work particularly well with this paper.

STOP BATH
An acid stop bath is optional but recommended. It quickly stops development by neutralizing alkali. This also helps extend fixer life. Dilution : 25 cc of 28% acetic acid in 1 litre of water. Stop bath time : 15 seconds or 20 to 30 seconds of water rinse.

FIXING (maximum time: 10 minutes)
Treat in a conventional sodium thiosultate fixer for a minimum of 5 min. at 20°C (68°F). Normal fixer capacity is 1.5 sqm/litre. A two bath fixing method (at 2.5 min. per bath) may be used to avoid under-fixing. When the first bath is exhausted, replace it with the second bath and mix a fresh << second bath >>. With ammonium thiosulfate 'rapid' fixers, treat for 30 to 45 seconds only, then give a thorough pre-wash for 5 min, Next, treat with a wash-aid (see WASHING, below) with frequent agitation for 10 min. before transferring to a final wash.

AFTER TREATMENTS
PRESTIGE VARIABLE NB responds well to bleaching and toning, To increase print life and deepen dark tones, prints may be treated in a selenium toner of about 1:15 dilution.

WASHING
The use of a wash aid (such as Kodak Hypo Clearing Agent) will reduce your wash time and increase the efficiency of your washing. As well, it will help guarantee the permanence of your photograph. Wash PRESTIGE in running water at a rate fast enough to completely change once every 5 minutes. Wash time is 1 hour at 20°C (68°F) or 30 min. if a wash aid has been used.

DRYING
To effect even and rapid drying, you may use a wetting agent as a final rinse. Excess water should be removed from the surface of prints with a clean sponge or squeegee. Prints may then be dried in dust?free air on drying screens or in a clean photo-blotter.

FINISHING
PRESTIGE VARIABLE CM may be retouched, spotted and mounted using normal methods.

FINE ART - (SILVER SUPREME)

An unrivaled black and white photographic paper of very high quality.  High silver content emulsion coated on a sumptuous 100% cotton - rag paper base of 320g/m2.  Only one contrast grade.

PRESTIGE FINE ART - (SILVER SUPREME) is an extra-premium (320g/m2), semi-matte photographic paper with a 100% cotton rag base. It a single grade emulsion (approximately grade 2) which is particularly high in silver content and gives extremely deep blacks and wide range of mid-tones.  It has excellent toning capability and due to the quality of its paper base and surface softness, it allows un-matched possibilities of hand-coloring.
PRESTIGE FINE ART - (SILVER SUPREME) also gives wonderful results when used to make contact prints from large negatives made with BPF 200 film.
